Jan 1st, 3026 : Rumors begin to circulate that a faction of the military of The Federative Republic of San Marcos. By the end of the day, Dingoes intelligence through * “The Dingoes’ Fangs” report that the nation-state based from Petrópolis has deployed long-range nuclear ordinance in a bid to halt the steady approach of military forces from The Republic of Buntar. Military operations halt all along the border, and several strikes destroy important front-line forces, including several battalions of line infantry.

Over the next couple days, the strikes wind-down, but alarms begin to spread among the nations of Terramatrix regarding the exact nature of the nuclear arms being deployed by the Petrópolis military. The arrival of the “Aviso” only complicates matters, and the nation-state having off-world support concerns the nations of the world even more.

January 4th, 3026 : The nascent members of The Commonwealth of Nations approach * “The Iron Dingoes” through their liaisonofficer Captain Carla Estrella, asking for any sort of assistance or advice in the matter, since the ability of both nations does not include assaulting a company-sized BattleMech force. The Dingoes commence a round-table discussion, and agree to help the organization, as they recognize the Dingoes might be the only force capable of responding in this sort of situation.

January 5th, 3026 : The Dingoes decide to deploy the lead Paw of * “The Werewolves” in a drop using their Freefall Drop APC, who will land outside the city, infiltrate the fortress and attempt to seize the Aviso. They recognize that the entire ship won’t be occupied, but they believe that capturing the bridge will forestall its guns and lock-down the DropShip until the troubles have been resolved.

The main Line BattleMechs of the Iron Dingoes will deploy aboard the “Brush Wolf” for a rapid orbital drop directly into the town of Petrópolis, and once the local Mech garrison has been destroyed, the Mechs will seize the DropShip for their own deployment back into orbit. The unit will also make an effort to locate the nuclear stockpile, if possible, and seize them as well.

The Werewolves manage a safe drop outside the town, and swiftly manage to sneak into the DropShip, seizing the bridge without alerting either the local garrison or the DropShip itself. With their swift orbital snap-burst message, the Dingoes deploy their Mechs in a line outside the fortress.

During the drop, however, MechWarrior Faith Whinyates “Faith” faced a malfunction, and was blown off-course, crashing south of the rest of the unit near the southern wall of the fortress. Local defenses immediately began to scramble.

Over the next minute, as the Mechs jettisoned their drop-packs and guarded the drop of their companions, a battalion of infantry roused themselves from barracks near the north-western corner of the fort. Another company deployed around the DropShip, dressed in an odd livery of yellow and red. Mechs also began to deploy from the DropShip, first four GLD-4R Gladiators and then four TLS-1B Talos. The unit also noted several bunkers scattered about the field in key positions in the roads and on the gates to the fortress, that went active.

Faith roused herself and scampered behind nearby buildings to gain some cover to her damaged right side, but two of the Gladiators split-off from the pack to deal with her, firing and striking her with several PPCs as they closed. Captain Michael Anderson “Fixer” and his unit jumped over onto the wall, taking a sprinkling of anti-armor fire from the closest barracks, while others scattered fire against the closest bunkers, taking minor anti-armor fire in return.

The command lance encountered the two Talos at the entrance, and exchanged fire, with MechWarrior Eric Lars “Caboose” laying in multiple hits with his PPCs and Large Laser, and Trooper Marcus “Backdraft” Matsumoto followed up with a couple hits to the Talos next to it, knocking it over, with a follow-up series of hits from Trooper Bodrick Thompson “Blaster”.

From the DropShip deployed a final lance of two Phoenix (ancient Mechs from the Rim World’s Republic past), as well as a Shootist, and a Dragoon, both high-end Mechs from the Rim World’s Republic’s Royal forces. All the new command Mechs began firing into the closest target, as Backdraft began taking some withering fire from all four of the Mechs along that edge..

Colonel Kanto Jokukad “Pitbull” finally recognized the coloration of the Mechs and the DropShip; the coloration of the Republican Royal Guards from the Rim World’s Republic. It would appear the unit had encountered the mysterious force that had been quietly manipulating activities all across the planet over the years.

A pair of Demolisher Heavy Tanks deployed from the central bunkers, but faced the arrival of Major Erika Hartmann “Glamour” as she jumped onto the fortress walls with her highly-modified AS7-D Atlas. She concentrated all her fire on the heavy tank, blowing it up, though its companion managed one solid strike into her RT with its AC/20s. One of the Gladiators managed a strike on Galmour, striking the same location as the tank.

The nearest bunker to Faith managed a lucky shot on her Head, though she also got in a couple shots on the closest Gladiator.

The lead Mechs in the entrance began concentrating fire on the two Talos, with all of them registering hits. Captain Pol Baca “Templar” scored criticals on the right hand Talos, including its Gyro and Engine, while Blaster followed up with PPC hits that blew through its remaining RT, to tear apart its CT, and destroy the Mech. Captain Mitchell Kitsune “Wraith” and LtJG Jessica Burlingame “Slayer” laid in strikes across the other Talos, with the latter getting multiple criticals to its Engine and LRMs. In response both Talos managed few hits.

The Shootist and Dragoon also managed a series of hits against Backdraft in his modified BLR-1G Battlemaster, including a couple critical strikes, as his armor began to buckle under the barrage.

Finally, Fixer managed a physical kick on the closest Talos, with no retaliation.

Things were heating up.

We shall see that at which dogs howl in the dark, and that at which cats prick up their ears after midnight.
