Overview : Debuting in 2633 for the Star League, the Battlemaster is one of the most iconic chasses of all time. Many stories of the Battlemaster’s superior abilities have circulated, from it holding off entire lances single-handedly, to a single Battlemaster taking out the defenders of important outposts during an invasion. Though Hollis’ main weapons factory on Corey were destroyed during the First Succession War, production has continued . However, the special needs of such a massive chassis have limited the production to only a handful each year.
Capabilities : The Battlemaster’s primary armament is quite formidable, with a forward-firing Donal PPC and four Martell Medium Lasers. A pair of SperryBrowning MGs and a Holly SRM 6 Pack give it impressive offensive capabilities against conventional forces, with a pair of rear-mounted medium lasers combined with fourteen-and-a-half tons of armor only enhance its aura of invincibility.
Deployment : Either a command Mech or as an anchor in an assault lance, the Battlemaster is favored among those who have the privilege of piloting one. Its heavy armor and firepower make the Battlemaster highly valued, though this unfortunately marks the design as a high profile target to be destroyed early in a fight.
Only produced in moderate numbers, the Mech is a relatively common sight across the Inner Sphere, as techs will go to great lengths to patch a damaged Battlemaster back together. The armies of House Stiener and House Marik contain the largest numbers of Battlemasters due to their possession of functional production lines. The Cappellan Confederation also possesses large numbers in their ranks, though many are increasingly falling to the military juggernaut of the Federated Suns.
Variants : Red Devil Industries produces a missile-support version of the Battlemaster for Lyran units. Stripping-out everything except the forward-firing lasers, the BLR-1S mounts an array of both short- and long-range missiles and adds two more heat sinks.
Lacking any production capabiliteis for the design, House Davion instead created the 1D field conversion variant. By stripping out the missiles and rear-fring lasers, for an extra ton of armor and six additional heat sinks, Davion increases the survivability of their remaiing Battlemasters during high-intensity conflicts.
The Iron Dingoes have acquired a rare BLR-1Gb Battlemaster from pirates in the Periphery. This model utilizes an endo-steel frame, and drops the missile launcher, machine guns and rear-firing lasers. It is armed with a pair of ER PPCs (one in each arm), the standard torso-mounted forward-firing medium lasers, and a large pulse laser in the center torso. Two heat sinks are removed, but the others are upgraded into Double-Heat Sinks with their high efficiency cooling ability. This variant also is a command model, allowing the installation of a command cockpit in the head. Another variant of this model, the BLR-1Gc, upgrades the heat sinks to double-efficiency models, while swapping out the MGs for a command cockpit. The former was employed by Star League Royal Units, while the latter was given to important non-Royal formations.
