1st Armored Cavalry Battalion "Big Red One"

Description:

1st Armored Cavalry Battalion – Questionable/Green “Big Red One”

Once the premier battalion under the old The New Republic of Sangria, the 1st Armored Cavalry Battalion includes the only formal armored company under arms in the Sangrian Army Command.

Officers : The commander of this combined-arms unit is Major Linda Chung “Amber”, a former mercenary who has displayed a talent for command and armored tactics. She is the highest-ranking female officer in the national military.

Tactics : The 1st Battalion is the only armored force in the Sangrian Army, and has been redesigned as an expeditionary force, from its garrison roots. There are long-range plans to attach a component that will grant some long-range mobility to the unit, either fixed-wing transports, or (ideally) a DropShip.

Support : The 1st Battalion has been equipped with a collection of HG-762 “Holy Grail” Assault Rifle originally supplied by the Sangrian Military, and each soldier is also equipped with a traditional set of Dumassas Militia Field Kit. Heavy weapons support for the company is primarily dependent on SPM-18A3 “Backblast” Recoilless Rifles, but detachments of MP-75mm Anti-Tank Guns and a pair of Sniper Field Artillery Pieces attached to each company.

For technical support, the 1st Armored Battalion has a number of techs assigned to a central “Logistics” pool for their considerable maintenance requirements. They still depend on the motor pool and machine shops in Ciudad Garcia attached to the 20th Engineering Battalion “The Hammers of War” for many of its maintenance requirements, and so is closely tied to its cantonments unless deployed into the field for operations.

Bio:

Once the premier company of the Sangrian army, the 1st Armored Battalion was primarily tasked with protection of the all-important national power plants. For many years, it served admirably in this endeavor.

During the initial stages of the 3021 civil war, the unit remained neutral, and on station throughout the growing conflict. It challenged the invading bandit force when it approached the nearby Indumil munitions plant, and was soundly defeated by the bandit’s powerful Mechs. The unit rebuilt itself under the tenure of Colonel Robinson Gonzalez del Rio (Deceased), but could not replace most of its lost vehicles and other hardware.

When General Pierre Garza asserted his influence in the region in 3024, the unit managed to be assimilated into his force without much difficulty, they remained apart in protocol and tradition, and never really fit in. During the reconciliation negotiations, it was repatriated to the The New Republic of Sangria, but was reassigned to an “Expeditionary” roll, based from Ciudad Garcia and held in reserve for sudden redeployment elsewhere. Its dependents were also repatriated to the new national capital.
