Campaign of the Month: June 2014
Battletech : The Farscape Campaign
2nd (Motorized) Rifle Infantry Battalion - "Saint Michael's Angels"
Saint Michael's Own
2nd (Motorized) Rifle Infantry Battalion – Regular/Questionable “Saint Michael’s Angels”.
“Saint Michael’s Angels” are a regular rifle infantry battalion serving in Sangrian Army Command. Once a key part in the defense of The District of Antiquia, during the 1000-Days War, the unit renamed itself “The Royal Armed Force of Antioquia”, and eventually fell under the control of Garza’s Legion, until the district was repatriated back into The New Republic of Sangria, and the unit given its old title and responsibilities back. The unit has many ancient traditions from its once independent national identity, and is considered highly religious in its zeal.
Officers : The unit is commanded by an appointee mercenary officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Manu Sharma, who seems likely to inherit the position permanently. The unit is in all other ways, considered a part of the national military, and although it once counted several former GUardia Civilia officers amongst its number, these have since been absorbed into the Policia Federales, and that civilian branch. Most of the remaining officers of the unit are local Darrians, and are quite resistant to bribery.
Tactics : Tasked with the protection of the Encali power plants and Carbones del Cerrejón Limited coal mines above all other purposes, they protect a region with many important industrial resources. They are a garrison force, and never had many free resources beyond that mandate, often relying heavily upon the 1st Armored Cavalry Battalion “Big Red One” for fast response to problems in the district.
Mostly mobile through a large fleet of Light Utility Transports and Jeeps, the unit also boasted a company of Wheeled APCs, though this force was mauled during the 3021 pirate raid, and its remaining assets cannibalized by Garza’s Legion when the unit came into their control.
The unit’s cantonments are in Valledupar, the district capital.
Support : The units are typically equipped with HG-762 “Holy Grail” Assault Rifles, but also have a large collection of 60mm Light Mortars and Milkor MGLs as infantry support weapons across the unit. There are no other notable anti-armor support weapons in the unit. The 23rd was considered a Fast Cavalry force equipped with Wheeled APCs, though most were lost and the remainder seized by Garza, prior to the unit’s repatriation to the Sangrian Army Command, making them simply motorized.s and [[:
The remaining portions of the unit consists of a battery of Sniper Field Artillery Pieces and a fair number of J-27 “Landram” Ordnance Transports for their support branches. They are adequately supplied with technicians for basic maintenance, mostly due to their proximity to ample industrial resources for parts supplies, and a lack of anything more complicated in thair formation than former civilian transport trucks.

Antioquia has been part of many territorial divisions of former countries created over the years, and is the present day territory of Sangria. Prior to 2894 the district had its own sovereign government.
The 2nd Infantry Battalion served loyally as the local garrison force of The District of Antiquia for generations, but has always been a sedentary unit, and not given easily to large-scale maneuvers.
In 3021, during the start of the 1000-Days War, the unit swore its loyalty exclusively to Colonel Robinson Gonzalez del Rio, who also set about recruiting the local Guardia Civlia to supplement his forces. The raid by unknown pirate forces later that year damaged this valuable force, but his recruitment of the Guardia Civilia managed to replace lost personnel and equipment, and by mid-3022, had secured the entire district and its industry enough to begin talks with other warlords regarding trade.
During this period, it assumed the title of “The Royal Armed Force of Antioquia”, or RAF, and was led from its headquarters in Valledupar. The unit was closely controlled by its Warlord, Colonel Robinson Gonzalez del Rio (Deceased), who in April of 3023, declared himself independent of all outside authority, and his province a separate and independent nation. He was said to be searching for a national symbol, something that might unite his people further, and eventually lead to development of a larger Sangrian state. He was considered allied to The District of Cundinamarca for trade, and the two leaders had been in close talks throughout 3023 about consolidating their positions against the rest of the nation’s military. The fact that they share a common border with The District of Cauca, made everyone in that district a little nervous. Their relationship was formalized further in late-3024.
On March 2nd, 3025, Colonel del Rio was found dead in his Palacio, of an apparent drug overdose. In the days that followed, it was revealed that he had a serious addiction to Black Oil, a corrosive drug exported by the mercenary army under Warlord Vaas Montenegro to fund their military efforts. It was further revealed that he had kept a dozen young girls in his palacio’s cellars for his “personal use”. By March 3rd, Garza’s Legion had begun to move into the district, and by the 9th of the month, the entire district had fallen under their control. After a purge of its senior leadership, the district’s military quickly sided with Garza’s Legion and the district was officially a distinct, but nonetheless vital part of Garza’s empire.
The unit became simply the regional portion of Garza’s Legion, and were commanded by an appointee mercenary officer, Colonel Manu Sharma. The unit was in all other ways, considered a part of General Garza’s armed forces, but were tasked in simple garrison duties.
In late-3025, the Reconcilliation Talks with General Garza stipulated the release of former military commands back into the control (and support) of Sangrian Army Command. In mid-January, 3026, the battalion was released back into national service, and the military junta of the local district came once more under the control of the civilian government. The unit had been stripped of much of its mechanized assets and supplies, but was able to once more follow its traditional position as the district garrison force.
In response, the unit changed its military patch, reflecting its ancient traditions and connections with the Catholic church, and the unit’s name as soldiers of the Archangel Michael, leader of the armies of heaven, but also reflecting the change of the unit in its influence and purpose.
