19th (Motorized) Rifle Infantry Battalion - "Black Skulls"

Expeditionary Infantry Battalion

Description:

19th (Motorized) Rifle Infantry Battalion – Regular/Reliable The “Black Skulls”

Organized with volunteers accepted from across The Republic of Sangria, the 19th Rifle Infantry Battalion was, until recently, a force of raw recruits training under the instruction of * “The Dead Man’s Hand”. At present, the unit is a green force of typical troopers, though their heavy weapons and vehicles makes them a potent danger to the unwary.

Officers : The unit does not have any notable officers at this time, though should develop some as time passes.

Tactics : The 19th Battalion is essentially a typical rifle infantry force, have been officially moved into The District of Guaviare, where they act as a counter to the threat of Garza’s Legion. Their heavy weapons are still new to them, but make them a danger to bandits and any other lightly armed force they might encounter. They are trained in simple anti-Mech tactics.

Support : The 19th Battalion has been equipped with a collection of HG-762 “Holy Grail” Assault Rifle originally supplied by the Sangrian Military, and each soldier is also equipped with a set of surplus Taurian Concordat uniforms, boots, belt and canteen. In addition, most have acquired basic backpacks, and often sport various private small arms, knives and machetes. They traditionally only possessed armor, helmets and other gear if it was privately acquired by their families, or if they take it off an opponent in combat.

For technical support, the 19th Battalion has a number of techs assigned to a central “Logistics” pool for their maintenance requirements. While the troopers are busy training and learning basic combat skills and how to be a better soldier, the longer-termed members have been involved in long-term advanced tactical training. Administration remains sufficient at this time, due mostly to efforts to assist in constant careful recruitment, and in establishing a core of command officers for the organization of the troops.

The infantry units employs a number of Light Utility Transports to keep them “mobile” or motorized, and to haul each unit’s MP-75mm Anti-Tank Guns. The unit has also been supplied with sufficient Wheeled APCs of fairly standard design, to equip one company as (Mechanized), as well as provide protection to its command group. Several Jeeps are also scattered throughout the unit as command vehicles by its officers.

The unit lacks an integral artillery component, but also has numerous SPM-18A3 “Backblast” Recoilless Rifles held at the platoon level for close-in support.

Bio:

Formed in late 3020, the battalion was lightly equipped and trained in basic infantry tactics. In 3021, the Dead Man’s Hand took over training of the unit in anti-Mech tactics, especially in employing terrain and ambush tactics to their best ability.

During the coup of mid-3021, the unit deployed with the Royal Infantry (Marine) Battalion – Sangrian Naval Command – “The Wild Cats” and their instructors in the Dead Man’s Hand, to secure the official government of Sangria from the various warlords that were trying to usurp control of the capital.

In June of 3021, the unit had evacuated the capital of San Succi for the relative safety of The District of Garcia, where they were given over many of the heavy weapons and vehicles abandoned from the 8th Battalion’s retreat from the district, and reorganized as a “Motorized” Battalion.

In mid-3024, they were assigned to a holding position across the border with The District of Cundinamarca, freeing its allied force, 8th (Motorized) Rifle Infantry Battalion – “Sultry Demons”, to engage in partisan influences in the region. In late-3024, the 19th encountered a number of “insurgents”, well-armed bands of paramilitary troops, who were probing the northern border. After several sharp skirmishes, the intruders faded back into the hills and the mountains north of the Miranda Plains. The fighting was not without losses, but the unit’s access to local helicopter forces proved a benefit in the fighting. The unit gained some valuable combat experience, and continue to serve their new nation with pride, having replaced losses through local recruitment efforts.

Throughout 3025, the unit encountered little in the way of raids, and enjoyed a fairly quiet time.
