7th (Motorized) Rifle Infantry Battalion - "War Spiders"

7th (Motorized) Rifle Infantry Battalion – Questionable/Regular “War Spiders”

Long considered an average infantry command in the national army, the 7th (Motorized) Rifle Infantry Battalion came back under the command of Sangrian Army Command in early-January, 3026. The unit provided support for the military control of The District of Cauca throughout the 1000-Days War, and until the unit could hand over the district to a new civilian government once the civil disorder across the nation had passed. The unit shows an unusual loyalty to its commander, mostly brought on through a purge of its disloyal and corrupt officers early in the civil conflict, which resulted in the unit’s complete control under its current officers.

Officers : The lead officer of the unit is Lieutenant Colonel Allister Uirdo, whose rise to leadership of The District of Cauca as its military dictator during the 1000 Days War, placed him in charge of the battalion as well. Though officially still referred to as “General” by his troops and local government dispatches, he is referred to in recent dispatches from the government as “Lieutenant Colonel”, and it is assumed he will eventually take the reduction in rank once he steps down as military governor of the district following its official elections in mid-3026.

Tactics : The 7th Battalion is a “Motorized” infantry unit, and has absorbed the transport assets of the other dissolved companies of the battalion (the 11th and 14th), sufficient to raise the entire unit to this status. While the unit has spent the last few years in cantonments as a garrison force, it is practiced in moving via rail across the western coast, and can be quickly deployed within the district’s borders with little notice. It is, however, mostly a defensive force.

The 19th (Mechanized) Infantry Company, however, is an exception. Trained to operate as a rapid response force, they deploy on a regular basis as the first response to any difficult assignment across the district, and have been deployed in support of the

Support : The 7th Battalion is lightly equipped with a traditional collection of HG-762 “Holy Grail” Assault Rifle originally supplied by the Sangrian Military, and each soldier is also equipped with a set of Dumassas Militia Field Kit. There is limited heavy weapons support in the unit, amounting to a support battery of MP-75mm Anti-Tank Guns, and four light tanks.

As the unit has few technical demands they cannot handle themselves, they have a very small selection of technicians and support equipment, that covers their basic needs, based from their military cantonment in Armenia. The unit also provides support for their sister-unit, the 3rd (Mountain) Battalion on a regular basis, along with the Armor Lance. The company is well-versed in combined arms actions, and is the premier infantry company in the unit.

It should also be noted, that the command elements of the unit are also the remnants of the national military marching band, and many within the unit have a rich history in musical performance. The unit has since re-organized a small marching band that performs throughout the year, having concentrated these skilled musicians under the aegis of the 4th Infantry Company.

Throughout its history, the 7th (Motorized) Rifle Infantry Battalion has been an average force of troopers, assigned to The District of Cauca. It’s troopers and much of its officer corps is from the local population, or has ties to the locals through their dependents, and came in many ways to be seen as the district’s personal army by its governors.

When the 1000-Days War struck the district in 3021, the remaining military leadership organized a junta that seized control of the district, and made one of their younger officer’s the Warlord of the district, General Allister Uirdo. In a stunning reversal of fortune, he rebelled against their attempts to control him and his troops, and after gaining the support of the remaining civilian government, purged these officers from his junta.

Following the removal of the criminal Mercenaries based from the Armenian Rookeries in 3025, he agreed to turn the district back over to civilian control, and his military back under the aegis of Sangrian Army Command, provided he retain leadership of his treasured 7th (Motorized) Battalion, though with a noted reduction in rank. As of mid-January, 3026, the unit gave over command of the district to its civilian authorities, and became just another battalion of The New Republic of Sangria.
