Campaign of the Month: June 2014
Battletech (Farscape) : The New Breed
Garrison
"Capital" of the Iron DIngoes Demesne
Description:
“Then there’s the Dingoes. They’re our protectors, our soldiers, our police. I always thought they were amazing. Brave, fearless, and free. Some people think the Dingoes are crazy, which they kind of are.”
System Name: System – Dumassas
Location : The District of Garcia
Population: 15,720 (3050).
Garrison Village
Central Garrison
Garrison Village is a growing community located fairly central to the district, and is primarily a support town for the local military garrison, and the home landhold of * “The Iron Dingoes”. Located at a central location along the Trans-Garcia improved roadway, Garrison lies about 48km due south-east of Ciudad Garcia.
More than a thousand buildings constitute the present village of Garrison, and new modern homes and tenements are under construction constantly. Grown from its humble origins, recreation venues and amenities include a public gymnasium, several soccer pitches, a bowling alley, a handful of family restaurants/pubs, a church, a pair of Solaro Oil Company fueling stations, several general stores, a hotel, a small Banco Nacional de Sangria facility, a police station, and numerous independent coffee shop s and bars, all booming with business since the mercenaries took over the fortress. There is also a small mall and a nightclub in operation in the “wealthy” suburb of Forest Hills. On the edge of this district, a new central government building for the * Iron Dingoes Autonomous District (IDAD) was established in early-3033, and became the focus of the growing community.
Recent construction efforts over the years have also given the village a far more “modern” look, with a booming economy bringing investment in solid concrete dwellings and businesses. Most of this work is conducted by locals, so development remains simple in pattern, and is familiar to most citizens of the world, though with a distinctive “modern” appeal in design and technology.
Legally, arrest in town (and the landhold) limits, places the offender under Iron Dingoes own justice system, though visiting civilian offenders are routinely turned-over to the Policia Federales station, also established by the mercenaries, where they are prosecuted in Ciudad Garcia, and subject to district law. The Dingoes own justice system tends to be harsh against armed offenders, and it should be known that the Dingoes operate no prison facility, and such offenders are rarely turned over to civilian authorities.
Garrison Suburbs
Town’s Edge
Town’s Edge : Between 3021 and 3022, the local population had doubled, with most village citizens providing employment in the service industry. While the town’s central market area (and its related businesses) had improved in importance, the need for cheap housing had driven new development into the fringes of town, where simple shacks and bunkhouses were often built, however and wherever they may. Known as “Town’s Edge”, the bulk of this development occurred to the west of town, slowly moving along the improved road north-west to Izpek. Recent refugee immigration has continued to push the community boundary in this part of town even further west.
Crime in this area is a constant concern, especially given the direct access most citizens have to automatic weapons. In response, the Iron Dingoes had invited the Policia Federales to formally investigate criminal matters and keep the streets safe. The Dingoes established a small police station for their exclusive use, and the Federales have deployed a squad of civilian police to the building, mostly as a liaison with local Dingoes authorities and the Iron Dingoes MPs out of the Garrison Militia Barracks, while small Policia patrols move through the local community and along the roads, usually between Gaucho, Mercado and Ciudad Garcia, making the community an important crossroads in travel between all these civil Federales stations. The Dingoes own MPs investigate registered landhold citizens, while the Federales look after civilian visitors to the community, which has helped the two forces mingle and concentrate their resources.
MercTown
MercTown : In early 3023, the rapid influx of several hundred skilled factory workers and mechanics who had agreed to move to the colony world in support of a new factory complex, put a considerable strain on the housing demands of the local community. Over the years, this neighborhood has developed quickly into an affluent portion of town, as small housing developments (mostly “Moduline” standards built out of Ciudad Garcia ), and some tenements were slowly assembled. The community’s “shack village” origins are now a lingering reminder of its origins as a refugee community, but it has also become the site of numerous important community developments, such as its first public clinic, a fire station and a small open marketplace for community gatherings. Several private hydroponics facilities have also opened across the community, as local civilians have seen an increase in various cash crops consumption, and many retired mercenaries invested heavily in these developments.
Several small mercenary bands base themselves from Merctown, mostly smaller squad-sized security (infantry) forces that keep a private armory and barracks, while they operate in other parts of the nation and the world at large. Two others, The Hellfire Brigade and The Urban Blight operate fairly substantial holdings, and are generally employed under national government contracts. While these troops bring in good money and maintain the nature of the community as a mercenary haven, they also ensure there is a base for local recruitment if someone needs a couple of guns fast, meaning the criminal elements of the town are well-armed and bolder than in most communities.
Increasingly the community’s market district, MercTown is filled with shops, stores, restaurants, tavernas, traders and cheap motels serving the diverse clientele that come to the town from across the planet. To keep the peace, it is heavily patrolled by Iron Dingoes MPs, especially among the growing wealth of the so-called ’Arms Bazaar". Clearly the vast majority of weapons dealers are found in this area, and competition for sales can prove fierce between them.
The Arms Bazaar is technically part of MercTown, but stands apart from this district because of the heavy traffic it receives from mercenaries, government agents and criminal elements seeking to procure, barter or sell the weapons of their trade. Every shop reserves the right to disarm visitors, and most shopkeepers are typically well-armed and employ security features to ensure their own safety. It is also possible to find BattleMechs wander the fringes of this district, as they pass between the Hub and the starport, sometimes parking for a few hours while its pilot seeks entertainment or arranges for technical services for his machine.
Garrison IDAD “Government House”
The Hub : In late-3031, the establishment of the * Iron Dingoes Autonomous District (IDAD) led to the creation of a new central government building in the heart of the town, with construction beginning in early-3032. The former administrative building used by the Iron Dingoes government was turned completely over to * Fraternal Iron Dingoes Organization (FIDO) for their own purposes, when the administration took over its new facility. All administrative tasks for the new district are occupied by the new staff of the central building offices, engaging in registration of citizens, processing of visas, and any other governmental matters of note. Paladin now maintains his private offices within this building, and regular meetings of the district council are also held within. Security remains tight in Government House, and access to the facility which includes an extensive cellar level, is restricted to government employees and individuals on official government business.
In the years since, the Hub has become the beating heart of the new government of the district. Most of the important businesses and commercial headquarters are located herein, as well as the * Diplomatic Corps (DC)’s official liaison facility. Located within sight of the central Command Dome, various government buildings, the new hospital and several upscale hotels and apartment complexes, it is the focus of most visitors to the city. Theaters, pubs, and visiting mercenaries are commonly encountered in the district, and is well-patrolled all hours of the day and night by dozens of armed Dingoes troopers.
The Colonel’s Estate, Forest Hills
Forest Hills : When Lord (Major) Michael Ruxbondy “Paladin” retired from active service in the Iron Dingoes, the company built this small estate for him and his new wife. Consisting of a fine house, stockyard and a small concrete bunker to house his personal Mech and other vehicles, it is placed on a kilometer-square plot of highland north-west and overlooking the new MercTown housing developments.
Over time, the suburb of Forest Hills has developed as the growing “upper class” of retired techs and soldiers who continue to construct well-built neo-classic houses on small plots of land. It is also the site of a Mercado Industrial Group “Mercado Shops” facility selling various imported luxury goods, and a few luxury shops and facilities not seen outside of Ciudad Garcia. Inhabitants include the oldest members of * “The Iron Dingoes”, and some of its more prominent mercenary and government leaders, as well as most senior officers of the organization.
Economy
Rural Garrison
While the village itself has grown and developed, the number of farms and ranches carved from the forests have also grown in number. The economy of the area remains primarily agricultural, so numerous small farms have been established along the access roads to the north and west of the village. Growing cotton, corn and tobacco, the farms support small families who were primarily refugees from San Marcos and the national capital of San Succi. Typically poor, they are nonetheless self-sufficient in most matters. In the years since, the edges of the landhold have developed several smaller villagers of farmers and industrial workers that call on Garrison for direction, services and government, but have been established by settlers with many diverse origins.
Nowhere (Pop – 245) : Far west of the village, near the town’s border with Izpek, a series of small farms are established by retiring dependents, troopers and techs who have decided to settle into a quiet life of pastoral ease. Most are also members of * “The Dingoes Muster”. Each is considered a technological marvel to the locals, complete with private electrical generators (typically solar- and wind-powered), water purification stills and other tools that most locals cannot imagine affording. Known as “Nowhere”, one of the retirees has also established a small independent fuel station and general store, offering the only refueling stop between Garrison and Izpek. Another has built a small bar, called “The Middle of Nowhere”, that locals favor.
Pequeno Marcosa (Pop – 640) : North-west of town is the newest agricultural settlement of “Pequeno Marcosa”, a place where several hundred San Marcos refugees were settled on virgin land to develop and establish farms on. These people, mostly portuguese-speaking and poor, have begun to concentrate their efforts in this community, farming their traditional corn, beans and cotton. The community has become a noted central gathering place for San Marcosan traditions and culture in the district, with new families applying every week for residency, often related to members of the local community. The community as a whole is rather poor, and has historically depended heavily on assistance from the local * Fraternal Iron Dingoes Organization (FIDO) teams, but the opening of the Husky Heavy Industries plant in 3029 brought many good-paying jobs for line workers from the community.
Córdoba (Pop – 390) : In early-3026, another agricultural settlement was established with the large number of Tragnari refugees who were related to the 21st Motorized Rifle Regiment. While many had settled into the main central village in Garrison, many more wanted to be near family and friends, and were established on virgin uncultivated lands on the south border of the landhold. Often referred to as “Córdoba”, the settlement added nearly a thousand farmers to the community, who raise goats and corn, and have shown a talent for home-based textile production. Many of the citizens are dependents who now serve in the Dingoes infantry forces, and as such, many are quite wealthy, with many modern amenities in their farms and homes. Utilities were established through Garrison in late-3026, providing electricity and purified water.
Pubs and Entertainment
Numerous pubs and micro-breweries have sprung up in the region, fueled by cheap local grains and both the wealth and skills of many local techs and troopers, plus the demand for cheap alcohol by the same. As a result, many local bars and taverns have produced their own micro-breweries, including Poker Cerveza Taverna, Storm Crow Tavern and the first such enterprise, The Lucky Lady.
There are also numerous smaller enterprises across the area, but most tend to be small coffee-shop establishments with a select regular clientele. Among these, the two O’ Coffee shops have proven increasingly popular among the civilian population.
A recent arrival to the Forest Hills district is Flirts, a high-end nightclub popular among the twenty-to-thirty crowd who want more than quiet drinks and light meals. As one might expect, it is quite clean, has good music and is becoming the place to be seen. It has a cover-charge of 5 Cs, but has a reputation for safety among its patrons, along with a security staff of off-duty Iron Dingoes soldiers.
In early-3028, Don Bravo opened its doors in the community, with a central location in the Forest Hills district. It also operates as the headquarters for the small chain.
Industry
Brass Dog Munitions Plant : Presently operating all four of its basic lines, the revitalized Indumil factory has been positioned on the north-western edge of the community. Operational by late-3023, the facility produces the HG-762 “Holy Grail” Assault Rifle exclusively in its new “Acer” model along with kits for the upgrading of older versions of the rifle; its IMC-40 Grenade Launcher, a modern 40mm grenade launcher that is attachable to the Holy Grail; the HG-7 Small Arms Repair Kit, a complete weapon repair kit for both, and the standard munitions (7mm rifle bullets and HE 40mm grenades) for both. The costs for the facility exceeded 12,000,000 Cs, and it was built by Grupo Odinsa. The district government owns a financial interest in the plant, as well as the Iron Dingoes themselves.
Indumil Factory Interior
A simple facility, it is a large open complex, with an armored (separate) section for munitions manufacturing. All four lines are highly dependent upon manual labor, and the complex could employ nearly 600 personnel, should it ever reach full production. Skilled line engineers and machinists, however are scarce and difficult to find, or lure from other industries. This number also includes a small force of administrative personnel to manage the day-to-day paperwork, finances and contracts.
Official opening of the facility was September 16th, 3023. At full capacity, the facility could (in theory) annually produce over 500,000 of the Holy Grail’s, though such production levels are never expected to be achieved. The facility is under the control of Master Tech Alejandro Pardo, and many of his family who are among the upper echelons of the factory’s management and employed directly in the mercenary company’s technical pools.
In mid-3048, a minor manufacturing wing was added to the complex, developing ammunition variants for Indumil’s own Type-07 “Artillery Turret” design of the LT-MOB-25 Mobile Long Tom Artillery. Largely more of a research facility, it actually produces very few shells each month, but rather conducts extensive testing of new ammunition types on behalf of the Iron Dingoes own Skunkwerks programs.
Cemex Cement Plant, on the west side of Garrison
Cemex : In early-3025, the Iron Dingoes funded the construction of a small dry-mix concrete production plant, creating a small company to assist in future construction efforts on their various demesne landholds, named Cemex. It employs a handful of secondary school educated locals, with a fleet of several modified Light Utility Transports to haul ready-mix concrete to sites for construction.
Husky Heavy Industries Production Plant, Rural Garrison
Husky Heavy Industries : Originally established off-world in mid-3027, this Iron Dingoes company built a production facility in the area between the rural Córdoba and Pequeno Marcosa communities in early-3039. Full production of its “Krypto” Angel Light Strike Fighters and “Black Dog” Jeeps began soon thereafter, and has seen several small-scale production runs in fulfilling the personal needs of the Iron Dingoes and their allies, with San Isabel ordering the first dozen (12) Kryptos in early-3031 to upgrade its severely weak air force, and several small orders from other global and off-world governments since.
Village Services
Garrison Military Sanatorium : In late-3031, the site of a large, 500-bed hospital was announced to be located on the edge of Forest Hills, along with full funding of its facilities and construction by Grupo Odinsa. Unlike most hospitals and clinics in Sangria, the facility is privately operated by the Dingoes own medical staff and intended to provide free services to citizens of Dingoes landholds, though non-citizens can pay to take advantage of the advanced services available to the community.
Ground for the facility was broken at the start of 3032, the facility was designed with 500 beds, including a large 50-bed emergency unit with combat injury recovery as a specialty. Expansion of the facility over time is expected to include a medical training program, improve and support * Iron Dingoes Medical Corps operations, and provide a focus for that organization on Terramatrix. It was completed in early-3034, and quickly gained a reputation as the best private hospital on the planet.
Today, in addition to the high degree of medical care available to IDAD citizens, the facility boasts a dozen Eligus Medical Diagnoser systems and is one of the few hospitals on the planet with more than enough medical staff. it specifically works in post-combat injury recovery and surgery techniques.
Electricity : Traditionally, all local electricity is provided by Garcia Electrical Authority through electrical relays and substations that originate in the hydroelectric dam on Lake Orlando. Though shortages of power have occurred in the past, and the rural areas outside of the landhold are distinctly lacking in the company’s service, the Iron Dingoes landhold is fairly well-represented by its electrical network. Increasingly, GEA plays a role only in direct service to the civilians of Garrison proper, while the industrial demands and remainder of * Iron Dingoes Autonomous District (IDAD) is taken care of by Blue Planet.
Blue Planet Utility Services
Increasing needs of the local industrial and civilian developments have begun demanding greater sources of electricity and both resource and water recycling. To resolve this, the Iron Dingoes have formed a private company Blue Planet Utility Services. Considered a civilian organization, it is nonetheless often staffed by former (retired) techs from the Iron Dingoes mercenary company, and funded by the mercenaries to be wholly their own animal.
The company has built an industrial waste/recycling facility, a small industrial water recycling facility, and the gem of the corporation, a small fusion reactor capable of providing 120 MWs power under full production, sufficient for nearly 10,000 civilian households. The company also deals with local trash issues, and are providing services to the unit holdings in Miguel and Izpek, including basic recycling services. The company is always looking for ways to improve their services, and prides itself on teaching the value of proper disposal and recycling technologies. The company has also established secondary recycling facilities in Miguel (3031), Mercado (3034), and Villa de Sabat (3036). A final facility was built at Melang in 3038.
In early-3030, the company began looking into expanding its services at Lake Aurin, and won a contract to rebuild the power facility there, and maintain the facility for the local military base and civilian farmers. Construction began in mid-3031, and the company began formal management of the facility in 3034. In 3037, the company also took over control of regional water recycling services, by buying-out Aquatech’s interests in * Iron Dingoes Autonomous District (IDAD). Assuming control over the local purification plant, and its related infrastructure, the company now controls all maintenance contracts and development plans for IDAD’s water supply.
Telekom Sat-Nav Station
Communications
While communications across the planet remain difficult without access to microwave transmission and spotty satellite service, traditional cable communications at the local level are a staple on Terramatrix. In Sangria, civilian services are generally provided by Telefónica out of San Succi, and maintained by ComStar.
Telekom is a new telecommunications co-operative, in the process of being developed and built. They have constructed of a small telecommunications station on the edge of MercTown, connected to a small network of three (3) solar-powered orbital receiver and re-transmitter satellites for tight beam and broadcast communications. Rumor speculates they also maintain a couple of private military satellites for the Iron Dingoes as well.
In mid-3026, the organization’s satellites had been acquired, and were launched into position through the aegis of the Iron Dingoes, providing the basis of an independent cable and microwave network to encompass the Dingoes landholds and provide access to a central database for research and educational purposes. All Iron DIngoes schools are equipped to connect with this network via limited computer access. Work continued to center on expanding the network to include Ciudad Garcia, Mercado and Tqak, linking the primary colleges of the district into the network, and turning the facility in Garrison into something of a data haven, largely centered in the Iron Dingoes Military Academy.
Telekom became a heavy backer in the development of TAC-1, the ZAFO telecommunications cables being laid between western and eastern coasts of the Atlantis Ocean, as well as the primary communications provider of IDAD. It continues to work on expanding its infrastructure, both internally to isolated communities and farms, as well as to important collegiate institutions across the district and potentially, the nation.
Education
Colegio Campo Alegre Grade School, Garrison
The oldest local source of education available to common citizens, the local “Colegio Campo Alegre” grade school teaches classes for children ages 5-10. Presently, around 300 students are enrolled in studies, learning basic language skills (Spanish and some English), basic mathematics, local history and agricultural sciences. Some exposure to “advanced” science (primarily water purification and food preservation) are provided, but such education is universally practical in application. It is run by the district government, and otherwise follows the national educational agenda.
In 3021, the grade school received a massive influx of older, but serviceable textbooks and teaching materials capable of teaching 300 Grade School students students across all subjects. Donated by the Iron Dingoes, these resources have helped ease much of the educational burden the school’s educators were being forced to deal with.
Following the demands of the large number of skilled settlers to the community in early 3023, the Iron Dingoes funded the construction of “Colegio Calasanz”, a second civilian grade school established for the burgeoning immigrant population in town. Situated on the border between MercTown and Town’s Edge, the facility follows the traditional national teaching strategy, though they offer more English as a second language. The national school board had sent whatever teachers they could once the facility was declared open in early-June of 3024, and with its allocated materials and new building, is now providing basic education to many of the colonist children from both System – New Syrtis and System – Promise.
In mid-3027, a third grade school was constructed and began operation in the rural Córdoba neighborhood, well-equipped with educational materials and teachers from the central educational centers of the district. This facility also provides services to the Pequeno Marcosa community. The school teaches with a great deal of emphasis on Portuguese, but its primary languages are Spanish and English.
In 3039, the school boundaries were redrawn with the establishment of a fourth primary school to support the increasing population of refugees from System – Carthage. Built in the Forest Hills district, it almost exclusively serving that area and its large population of Dingoes children, giving the facility an elite status among many of the local schools, as many of its students come from increasingly affluent families, with a reputation to uphold.
Iron Dingoes Military Academy
In mid-3024, the town began construction of the community’s first secondary school, the “Iron Dingoes Military Academy”. The facility is built next to the town’s MercTown primary school, and the facility was equipped by the Dingoes with a large collection of educational books and materials salvaged from San Succi, and further built with an eye towards deployment of high technology and universal computer access among its students, something unseen elsewhere in the nation. A durable, energy-efficient structure, it is considered the leading secondary educator in the country, with well-paid instructors covering a variety of disciplines.
Due to the highly technical aspects of the school’s education, students are given a compad, initially the H-3 Horizon “Blue Lotus” Compad, and later the XC6 Xplore Noteputer, which is considered integral to their curriculum. In most other ways, education among students for the first three years is typical of most Sangrian secondary students, but during the last two years of their education, (usually beginning around age 15 or 16), several vocational “Tracks” are offered, all of which lead to their own limited degree. In addition to the traditional curriculum of the “Bachillerato Académico”, are various specialized application tracks; the Industrial Track ( Bachillerato Industrial ), the Commercial Track ( Bachillerato Commercial ), the Agricultural Track (Bachillerato Agropecuario), and the Military Track ( Bachillerato los Militares ). The “Bachillerato” is often required to continue into academic or professional higher Education elsewhere in the nation.
Each track follows various technical applications dedicated to its namesake degree, teaching Administration, Computers, Technician and other valuable skills, but among the Iron Dingoes, the military branch has the most emphasis, teaching introductory Martial Arts, Small Arms and basic Leadership skills. There is an emphasis school-wide on physical education, often displayed through a healthy competition in various soccer clubs and shooting competitions.
Entry to this facility and its Militares degree, is deemed the first step in beginning an officer’s education with * The “War Dogs” College of Military Sciences. Entry is free to all registered citizens of the district, with a local “sponsorship letter”, ensuring membership stays controllable. Priority in placements is always given to locally registered Dingoes landhold children first. Outsiders can access the facility when openings are available, but the tuition costs tend to defer most casual interest.
Garrison Catholic Mission
The local Catholic Mission is a valuable addition to the village, but especially serves the urban poor by supplementing their income with work on the Mission’s acreages, and provides access to more modern healthcare than traditionally available in the region. Dedicated to the Order of Santa Rosa, it is a chapter-house of the sisterhood found in Miguel. The sisters also offer private education to well-paying local families, tutoring in languages (including French and Latin), advanced math and social graces.
Transportation
Iron Dog Airfield
https://youtu.be/9BCnEtOTFTY
Of more recent construction, a paved airfield and series of industrial-grade landing pads for spheroid DropShips has been built along the western side of the hill below the Mech Garrison, that provides space and full facilities for the landing of DropShips and K-1 Class Dropshuttles, though traffic remains sporadic. The facility is protected by a perimeter that is guarded by the dedicated garrison force of 1st Tactical Air Command; security at the airfield is tight, with armed troopers and security check-points located all along the perimeter. A mandatory rule for weapon storage unless a registered Dingoes tech or trooper, is in effect.
Development of the airfield has been a steady long-term plan, including establishing fortified bunkers for a wing of aircraft, built in a simple but effective pattern. The Iron Dog Interface Group itself, is a collection of transport airplanes and helicopters, and several short-range orbital shuttles allowing direct access from the facilities at Garrison to the Iron Dingo holdings elsewhere in the district and in orbit (namely “The Factory”).
Iron Dog Airfield was further improved in mid-3027 with a 6-km long paved landing field for even large aerodyne DropShips, two smaller attached paved runways of 4-km length each for civilian aircraft, and six (6) reinforced drop-pads for Dropshuttles and DropShips to land with ease.
In early-3028, the unit invested in constructing a full airport/starport facility. They provided funding to build the primary Customs Terminal, from which commercial flights could operate, several cargo loading rigs, a small repair facility to provide basic maintenance for shuttles and small craft, a proper refueling station with several 100-ton storage tanks, and a fairly capable control tower equipped with an orbital communications array and a fairly capable computer system that allows for proper orbital flight planning of many shuttles and other vessels.
In early-3029, the starport established its main control center, allowing commercial organization of incoming and outgoing craft, assisted by dozens of terminals, each linked to a massive computer mainframe. Up to 100 CCTV signals can be simultaneously maintained (though there is far from enough staff to monitor them all), and an extensive orbital communication array capable of 5000-km range, with holographic projectors to track all local traffic. The facility uses many imported parts, and is likely to be completed around the same time as the main terminal, though the 4th Succession War has created many shipping delays.
Outside of the facilities in Von Doom, the local starport is considered a highly-capable international airport, with perhaps one of the best drop-port facilities in the world, especially given its access to refined fuels, and direct access to “The Factory” as an official Highport.
The facility is, however, ultimately a military facility, and so limits off-world interest, partly due to its extreme customs vetting, and also its distance from the bulk of the district’s industry. The relative isolation of IDAD itself also limits the potential use of the facilities, though shipping by air has always been key in the district, and the many regional cargo and passenger lines view the facility as a potentially valuable headquarters, and the starport’s improvement of its commercial facility has made access to orbital traffic as well as international flights a viable option. Starting in early-3024, numerous small air transport companies have arisen and base themselves from Iron Dog Airport.
Whippet Transport Lines : Offering the bulk of the local national transport service, it offers connecting orbital flights to “The Factory” and international flights reaching out to nearby colonial holdings and as far as The Republic of Delancourt in central Terramatirx. Also, its bus service across * Iron Dingoes Autonomous District (IDAD) and into the local district’s important communities gives it leverage in the “air war” of local commercial flight service.
EasyFly in early-3024began operating a single passenger flight out of Iron Dog Airfield each day to the district capital at Ciudad Garcia, and continue to offer small passenger service on a regular basis domestically, typically targeting business personnel and other corporate figures. They offer flight connections across the nation, including its closest territorial holdings.
Air Garcia the first small air company, began operating a quartet of older, refurbished DC-3D “Condor” STOL Air Transports out of Iron Dog in 3025, running cargo and passengers across the combined districts of The Commonwealth of Nations. They quickly obtained a dodgy reputation for questionable cargo choices, but don’t ask many questions, and remain cheap.
Magic Carpet Airships : a small air transport firm operating a pair of Elemental Cargo Airships with commercial cargo flights to San Succi and into the nearby mountains.
Fly By Night : A small brother-sister team who offer charter flights in their DC-3D “Condor” STOL Air Transport to anywhere on the planet.
Golden Age Airlines : Offering cargo and passenger flights to San Succi, as well as both The District of Cauca and The District of Antiquia, the company provides adequate service with their handful of DC-3D “Condor” STOL Air Transports. They are good domestic competition to Whippet Transport Lines, but cannot compete in servicing international flights.
MIL Garrison Warehouse
The primary source of logistics in the region is Mercado Industrial Logistics from the Mercado Industrial Group, who provide a comprehensive level of shipping bulk goods and materials for local consumption. Mercado operates a shipping center from Garrison, to fulfill the increasing needs of the local community and its military garrison; construction of the facility was completed in mid-3023.
Whippet Bus Depot – Garrison
The Iron Dingoes operate a civilian bus services from Garrison, Whippet Transport Lines, which has proven popular as a reliable and comfortable means of transit between Garrison, Ciudad Garcia, Mercado, and the coast. Vehicle maintenance is maintained through a modern bus depot built in early-3026 and fuel is easily acquired from the Iron Dingoes own supply-lines, ensuring regular schedules are maintained.
A small fleet of DC-3D “Condor” STOL Air Transports along with a pair of ST-46 Class Shuttles also fly out of Iron Dog Airfield on regional daily routes to “The Factory” and various regional airports; the company offers discount fares on all these routes with connecting bus tickets. There is a growing regional interest in the offer.
In late-3027, a pair of Mark VII Landing Craft based from “The Factory” were also assigned to this company, and operate in support of the Iron Dingoes own orbital operations and increasing logistics demands. Generally they haul large industrial or military cargoes, but remain available for emergency shipments worldwide when required.

Military Forces
Fort Garrison
Garrison Mechwarrior’s Hall
Communications and Command Center
Fort Garrison is an ancient holding dating back to the Star League, constructed atop and into the hill over-looking the village of Garrison and the valley around it. The fort is primarily above-ground, consisting of a substantial series of barracks for three companies of infantry, a company of armor, and a massive three-story MechWarrior’s Hall, the latter boasting fifteen large suites, a club room, a briefing room, and an officer’s mess. There is also a large armory buried under the hill, as well as a huge stock barn and a Mech staging compound for routine maintenance. Also under the hill is a large command HQ, with potential up-links to satellite and the nation’s microwave transmitters.
In late-3030, the 1st Special Forces Group – “Red Shields” were attached to garrison the fortress, and presently engage in patrols based form this ancient facility. The remainder of the facility is only occupied when visiting units from the Iron Dingoes three (3) combined-arms units are on-planet and need either repair space, or conducting administrative matters, as they tend to operate from their personal DropShips. Each of these units, along with the other infantry formations maintain an office here, however, and have a small logistics staff present to ensure their supply needs are met when on planet. It remains the focus of the administration of the entire military force of the Iron Dingoes as a whole.
Many of the local construction assets based from this facility are called upon to assist the road crews improving the roads throughout the region, as well as helping efforts to improve the local community’s infrastructure. At this facility, the following additional assets have been allocated:
One (1) Fitness Facility; Sufficient “Life Fitness” equipment for a company of soldiers to exercise and entertain themselves off-duty.
One (1) Collection of General Interest Books (10 tons).
Twenty (20) Standard (5-ton) Cargo Containers.
One (1) Standard 22-ton Military Wheeled Crane Wrecker
One (1) Kallon Industries “UL-8” Heavy-Duty Loader
Two (2) “CAT” Medium-Duty Rotary Excavators
Two (2) “CAT” Medium-Duty Scrapers
Two (2) “CAT” Medium-Duty Dozers
Two (2) “CAT” Medium-Duty Articulated Haulers/Dumpers
Hydroponics Greenhouse : A large hydroponics greenhouse set-up as a nursery, this facility has been built near the east interior wall, beside the exterior stock barn. While a large portion of its area has been set aside to grow various spices and fresh garden herbs, another portion holds trees, shrubs and other large plant specimens taken from the deep underground levels of * Castle Corazón; Levels Four (Farming) and Ten (Recreation). From these early stocks, Master Tech Arnold “Whistler” Swiger began restocking the lower levels of the Castle with new fruit and nut trees and other valuable foodstocks from these seedlings. The latest efforts have been to spread these seedlings across the local landhold, and engage many local school children across the IDAD’s educational structure as part of their agricultural development programs.
Cerberus Command
Overseeing general security at the landhold is a permanent garrison of * “Cerberus Command” militia infantry equipped with standard equipment; namely Iron Dingoes Infantry Field Kit (3023)s from the Iron Dingoes armory. The squads are built from both local recruits and semi-retiring soldiers from the Dingoes long-term service. The platoon has also been equipped with enough Jeeps to equip one entire platoon as “Motorized”.
This group operates independent of the local Mech garrison, with direct protection of the village as their primary responsibility. They have been trained with the “MP” specialization, and allow regular Policia Federales forces access to the landhold, and deal with the civilian criminal activities, while this local garrison deals more directly with military personnel issues.
Their barracks can hold up to two platoons of infantry, and are located just on the edge of the village, along the eastern access road, and consists of a motor pool, a simple barracks hall for the soldiers, and a central armory/mess hall for support of the unit. Dependents do not have space in the barracks proper, and dwell in the nearby village.
The Federales have placed a single administrative squad in a building (in MercTown ) provided for them by the Dingoes, where they can co-ordinate with officers out of Mercado, and they work carefully with the local Dingoes MPs to ensure the line between civil and military relations are maintained and mutually supported.

16th (Motorized) Militia Platoon “The Hearth Guards”
Twelve (12) Black Dog Jeeps
4 Squads Rifle Infantry (MP) (Vet, 2 Reg, Green)
- 1st Special Forces Group - “The Red Shields”
The 1st Special Forces Group – “Red Shields”, operate as a permanent garrison force, but are generally kept in reserve as a fast-response unit to engage any threat to the local landholds from an exterior military force. based from the central fort, they protect that facility, typically with the 15th (Jump) Infantry Company – “Death From Above” providing building security while the other two companies patrol the borders of the district. They are under their own command in most matters, and answer directly to Pitbull.
- 1st Tactical Air Command - “XXX”
The air base is a simple paved airfield with wooden hangars to store aircraft and keep parts and fuel supplies out of the elements, though armored bunkers for the military aircraft have been built behind the main hangars in a protected facility. A perimeter with trenches and bunkers has been established for basic security of the facility, and is garrisoned by a full company of infantry, employed by the 1st Tactical Air Command. It also has a substantial amount of air defense protection deployed.
Assigned at the start of 3025, 1TAC are the designated “first strike” force assigned to defense of Iron Dingoes landhold airspace. Presently the unit has little actual combat experience, but practices regularly and has plenty of access to fuel, parts and technical support.
The Iron Dog Airfield Defense Group is the designated local air and ground force, whose primary calling is to ensure air superiority and intercept any unknown force approaching the area. The large unit is under the command of Lady (Major) Heather Jemmas, as is the infantry company deployed as security for the starport. Many of its officers are from her former personal guards, so the unit is quite loyal to her family.
The inclusion of many anti-air, artillery, helicopter and AeroSpace assets in the wake of the Small War, has pressured supply demands for the unit, placing technical recruitment as high on the list of demands for this unit. In addition, a single tank was added to assist the unit in wider-ranging patrols of the perimeter in late-3025.
The techs and assets of the “Iron Dog Interface Group”, were folded under the 1st Tactical Air Command to smooth logistics and repair services for the military garrison, when the unit was first formally created.
Criminals
Despite crack-downs on common criminal elements in the region, two (2) noteworthy local gangs have arisen; the Highwaymen, and The Dead. Among the Iron Dingoes, they see these groups more as “…the devil you know…”, and have actually suborned one, and have something like a respectful relationship with the other. A smaller, quieter third gang has also become important in the community, known only as the “Skull Gang”, but they only deal with local criminals, and don’t actually operate from the landhold.
The Dead use a stylized hangman’s noose as their mark, and favor black leather clothing. They use several motorcycles and hovercars, but also have a pair of older Light Utility Transports that they use to haul around their “products”. Led by Shiller “The Sword” Vernil, it is rumored the real brains behind the gang is Julia Dalgado, his girlfriend. The gang have become very organized of late, control several older tenements and maintain various prostitution rings and run a protection racket. In early-3028, the Dead survived unscathed through a sudden and ruthless shake-down by Iron Dingoes and Federales authorities, targeting hard drugs and weapons dealers in the local landholds.
The Highwaymen use a red arm bands as their mark, but wear red face masks during activities. Formerly led by Richard “The Red” Fernandez, the group has undergone a sudden shake-up with many of its leaders, including Richard “The Red”, being slain in the action. Today the gang is led by Surtar “the Grim” Valdez, who continues to operate among the rural portions of the town. From his ranch headquarters, he manages a small gang of hovercycles, and they are believed to be behind several goods shipment robberies in the district. In recent years, their activities have been centered on countering the third gang in the region, the “Skull Band”. Few are aware that the gang now reports directly to * “The Dingoes’ Fangs” and is an informal extension of * “The Dingoes’ Fangs” counter-intelligence network in the district.
The Skull Band, as they are called, are a shadowy group of smugglers, who pride themselves in their relative anonymity. Generally bringing in cheap munitions and combat vehicle parts, the band have exclusive clients. While they have grown bolder over the past few years, they have also come under the direct assault by the Highwaymen, who seem to see them as rivals, and are waging a constant war against their midnight convoys. The leader of this gang is unknown.
History
Garrison Town
The ancient facilities of Garrison date to the Star League occupation; over the centuries, they have been used (and abandoned) by various local militia. The most recent village was established in 2954, and consisted of 60 prefabricated housing units for the dependents of the newly built 4th Infantry Battalion. Development of the village took nearly six years, due primarily to a lack of local infrastructure and government finances.
In 2976, the village consisted of nearly 200 homes, though about 1/4 were vacant. It also boasted a movie theater, a general store, soccer field, and grade school. Local funding of the military was proving difficult, and the future of the village was under question. The following year ( 2977 ), the homes and lots (then owned by the government) were offered to the village inhabitants for 1200 Cs each, who unilaterally accepted the offer, bringing the military some needed funds and made the village its own entity. It also brought a handful of outside interests to purchase cheap land and settle, including numerous farmers.
In 3016, the local battalion deserted en-masse and took with them almost the entire armory and most of the local economy shattered. In 3018 the fort was made the focus for efforts by * “The Iron Dingoes” to rebuild the 4th (Motorized) Rifle Infantry Battalion – “Garcia’s Own”, and quickly turned the local economy around.
In May of 3021, the facility was formally turned-over to * “The Iron Dingoes” as part of their landhold, and became the formal home to the unit’s reserve battalion, * “The Fold Fiends”, in addition to an increasing number of Iron Dingoes dependents and allies. Housing had quickly become an issue, and some cheaper bunk houses were being built by developers as they were able to afford them, though discussions of establishing cheap tenements were also started around this time.
By October 3021, the community was starting to grow and develop, and demands to improve its water-processing facility started with the installation of a massive 1.2 million-liter storage tank (acquired as salvage from the San Succi Auction Yard ) in the center of town. A new facility is planned nearby to meet the needs of the growing local population.
Typical Sangrian Tenament
In early 3023, the large influx of hundreds of skilled mechanics and factory workers to the community caused a massive disruption, and greatly impacted the local needs of the populace. Depending upon stored military rations and living in temporary housing, conditions were initially not very good for the colonists. By this time about six (6) new tenements were built and more were on the way, as demands for housing increased, making some local developers quite wealthy.
Soon after the return of the main line of Iron Dingoes troopers to cantonment in Garrison, the unit began expanding the local facilities in great detail, including establishing their own utilities services company, Blue Planet Utility Services providing local electrical and water recycling needs. The inclusion of a new primary school in 3023, and then a secondary school in 3024, displayed the Iron Dingoes continuing efforts to improve local education, especially with the latter’s inclusion of school-wide computer and technical access. The Dingo Cats were first developed as a community project at this time.
On September 5th, 3024, the village was host to the combined Governor’s Council following the initial hostilities of the Small War. This council met at the location for its relative strength and neutrality between the districts, and founded much of its initial military integration during the meeting. Given the lack of a national headquarters, while efforts were made to establish Sterling Field in Ciudad Garcia as their national base, the base became an important means of relaying communications and materiel between the various battalions and branches of the The New Republic of Sangria military during this critical initial stage.
The village and local district was affected by the 3025 outbreak of the Outworld Flu, but not to the level of the rest of the nation, due to its number of trained medical personnel, and the use of “The Factory”’s extensive medical facilities and personnel towards the hardest hit patients. nonetheless, about a hundred casualties resulted from the illness, among all its citizens.
By early-3026, the settlement of Garrison had seen a large number of San Marcos refugees assigned by the national government, many of whom replaced the losses of the Outworld’s Flu. Mostly granted farmland north-west of the community on previously unsettled land, their adoption by the community proved somewhat difficult, particularly with language being a major initial problem. This settlement, known locally as “Pequeno Marcosa”, is quickly becoming a bastion of Portugese culture and language in the Dingoes landholds. The previous adoption, however, of many hundred San Marcos soldiers, and the open use of the * Fraternal Iron Dingoes Organization (FIDO) teams locally stationed in the community, made their acclimation far easier than might have been.
Among these new settlers, however, were several fairly wealthy and technically capable former citizens of San Marcos, who had managed to take refuge at “The Factory” for a time, and these individuals were assimilated directly into the Iron Dingoes technical and commercial interests, without government influence or controls. Many have found themselves working for the mercenary’s developing corporate efforts in the Dingo Brand Corporation.
During the quiet years of 3026-3027, there was an extensive series of infrastructure investments, focusing on the final construction of the local fusion power plant, the new Husky Heavy Industries plant with its heavy vehicle manufacturing lines, and the improvement of the local airport/starport into a formal and impressive facility. With the influx of educated industrial and support personnel, the population surged and construction of civilian housing again became an issue.
By the dawn of 3028, formal construction of the local starport began, and immediately pushed yet another surge of commercial development and interest in the region. This facility was completed by early-3030, and capable of providing full commercial services for visiting DropShips, international cargo and passenger transfers, and even support facilities for dirigibles.
In late-3031, the village was labelled the “capital” of the * Iron Dingoes Autonomous District (IDAD), and it assumed a far more cosmopolitan atmosphere over the next few years, with the region solidifying and gaining momentum in the other colonial efforts on the planet and beyond by the Iron Dingoes.
The construction of Blue Planet Utility Services’s Jamerson-Ulikov Water Purifier production facility in 3036 led to the company becoming an important civilian manufacturing company, and brought the community a great deal of notice by the international community.
In 3038, the sudden influx of refugees from System – Carthage, led to a wealth of skilled technical personnel, and more than a doubling, again, of local population numbers over the next decade. Local industries were operating at peak efficiency, and countless small cottage industries began to appear, offering unique services and products to the increasingly affluent citizens of * Iron Dingoes Autonomous District (IDAD).
