L2 "Maser" Laser Assault Rifle
Laser Rifle of the Stargaards
The L2 “Maser” Laser Assault Rifle (LAR) is a fairly generic rifle popular in Periphery regions for its relative ease of acquisition. More durable than ballistics, laser rifles are nonetheless more expensive and require military-grade power packs to employ.

The L2 “Maser” LAR is an open-license model of energy small arms with a patent that dates back to the Age of War. The now-defunct Draymar Corporation designed a variety of robust missile launchers, assault rifles and laser weapons for the consumer markets among the Houses of the Inner Sphere. It didn’t keep up with technology creep, however, and many of its weapons began to be sold to the Periphery, until after the Age of War, when the Periphery realms all fell to the might of the Star League. Seen as a “weapon of the enemy” by many in the Inner Sphere, the company soon folded, selling-off its licenses wholesale to anyone and everyone. There were few takers, and due to its obsolete design, is now considered an “open license” by the Great Houses and armaments manufacturers. The design of the weapon remains simple, and uses “obsolete” components making it heavy and encumbering by modern standards, but robust and reliable enough to withstand many harsh conditions; perfect as an XCT weapon.
Now relatively common in the Periphery, there are only a few in possession of the Iron Dingoes, all acquired through legal means during the unit’s stay on Heroditus. They are universally employed by the Iron Dingoes “Stargaards”, its marine force created to protect their DropShips from assault, and unlike most laser rifles, the lack of a trigger-guard on the Maser has allowed their inclusion for XCT Ops easy and without any modifications needed. Cheap and easy to acquire (for a laser rifle), they remain a rare item in the Iron Dingo armories, though this might change over time.
