4th (Jump) Rifle Infantry Battalion – Green/Questionable “Yarará”

The 4th (Jump) Rifle Infantry Battalion was organized from the lead battalion of the 21st Motorized Rifle Regiment, of The Tragnar Confederation. This unit defected following the collapse of the military government and nation-state, as a result of the combined efforts of the 3024 Small War and the 3025 Outworld’s Flu.

Following a short two-month training period to facilitate the unit with their new equipment (but luckily not their traditional rifles), the unit was evacuated off-world to assist in the occupation of * “The Iron Dingoes” newest landhold in System – Gollere.

Officers : Major Richard Moore is the leader of this infantry force, having taken command just prior to their redeployment off-world in early-3026. A consummate mercenary leader, he has plans to rebuild the force as jump infantry, and over time, turn the green force this unit has become, into the strong troop it has the potential to become once more.

Tactics : The 4th (Jump) Battalion has a long tradition as consummate infantry, and every member was originally trained as paratroopers, specializing in airborne assault operations. Losses and replacements from the conflicts suffered during the invasion of The District of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, and subsequent struggles to survive the 3025 Outworld’s Flu, have reduced its effectiveness, as well as the experience its troopers had with parachute operations. The unit has, however, maintained its tradition of knife-fighting and melee skills, as best embodied by their symbol, the “Yarará”; the Yarará Parachute Knife is a specially made dagger issued to Tragnari paratroopers with a handguard that functions as a knuckleduster. Current issued models come with an emergency blade in the crossguard.

In early-3029, the unit was equipped with Jump Packs, purchased by the Iron Dingoes command, for the purpose of converting the unit into a full jump infantry battalion. Although the unit took an experience loss for the conversion, its ability to maneuver swiftly and rapidly across the battlefield, is considered a much more important ability in the long run. They continue to train with their new equipment, though it is expected to take them some time to adapt to the new technology.

In mid-3030, with the return of the Iron Dingoes to Dumassas, the unit was issued a fairly capable platoon of technicians recruited from Filtvelt, including medical and technical repair personnel, giving them fairly comprehensive support, and lessenign their demands on unit parts supplies.

Support : The 4th (Paratrooper) Rifle Infantry Battalion has been equipped with standard combat armor, helmet, and pulse laser rifle of the Iron Dingoes Infantry Field Kit (3023). As heavy weapons support, the unit doesn’t deploy with any heavy weapons, rather depending on Milkor MGLs deployed with each squad.

The unit does not have any attached logistical elements, and depends largely on itself for technical support. As formerly a pure foot rifle infantry, however, they had few needs they could not resolve themselves. With the introduction of their Jump Packs, their demands on the central parts supplies of Iron Dingoes have become important to its viability as a combat force in the long-run.

Yarará of the Tragnar Paratroopers

An established part of The Tragnar Confederation military, the 4th Paratrooper Battalion has a long history of service as its premier fast-response unit. Among its many traditions are a reputation for fierceness, and the unit’s traditions of melee combat and sharp commando tactics.

The horrors of the assault on the airfield at The District of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, and the unit’s subsequent retreat to its home base in Tragnar, forced the unit to begin a period of rebuilding, which was cut short by the 3025 Outworld’s Flu, which decimated its ranks. As the nation fell into anarchy, the unit as a part of its parent force, the 21st Motorized Rifle Regiment, retreated to a border province, hoping to wait out the conflict between warlords.

By late-3025, the unit’s leader, Lieutenant Colonel Jorge Adolphus Mendoza made the plea that perhaps the nation they followed had lost their support, and with the support of his senior unit officers and their dependents, the unit chose to leave Tragnar under the status as mercenaries. During initial investigations for a place to retreat to, they were contacted by * “The Iron Dingoes”, and promptly folded their fortunes in with that successful mercenary unit.

In early-3026, the unit was given its new lead officer, Major Richard Moore, vetted in a standard six-month series of training sessions at Corazón Airfields Fort Boomerang, and given orders to deploy off-world to System – Gollere in support of the unit’s newest landhold at * Duchy of Tharn. It arrived in September, 3026, where it relieved 3rd (Guards) Rifle Infantry Battalion “The Jungle Cats” as support for the * Iron Dingoes Guards “The Lantern Corps”.

The unit completed a tour of duty in March, 3027, when it was relieved by the 9th (Motorized) Rifle Infantry Battalion – “Boar Hunters”, whereupon it returned to the unit’s landhold in System – Dumassas and spent some time in its cantonments, which continued through 3028, with only small unit patrols of the Iron Dingoes landhold borders on a fairly regular basis.

The unit was informed mid-3028 to prepare for counter-training as jump troops. In early-3029, the unit received its Jump Packs, and began training itself as an elite infantry combat force. Several of its members left the unit at this time, to replace troops in other forces across the unit, as the battalion needed to shed some of its personnel to make room for the equipment they now possessed. They were sent to Fort Boomerang near Corazón Airfield to begin training with their equipment, largely under the direction of several former officers of The Unforgiven.
