3rd (Guards) Rifle Infantry Battalion "The Jungle Cats"

3rd (Guards) Rifle Infantry Battalion – Green/Questionable The “Jungle Cats”

The 3rd (Guards) Rifle Infantry Battalion was organized from recruits garnered from across Sangria, who occupy key command positions, including its command company, and from the large number of conscripted troopers captured during the battle of Islas Brasilera. Its command is controlled by the veteran Coldhearts platoon, who have spent several years as trainers of the recruits in Fort Boomerang, but were mostly former bandits and mercenaries recruited in System – Sligo.

Today, the unit has become a part of the larger * Dangerous Operations Group (DOG), and is intended to operate as a front-line infantry formation. It is training to fulfill that mandate, and operates as its leading unit in operations.

Officers : Lt. Colonel Abelinda Rivera was given command of the unit in early-3026, though she still operated as a liaison officer to The Unforgiven until the unit’s redeployment to System – Gollere. As the unit is primarily a holding garrison force, they tend to have unspectacular officers, who concentrate on the logistics of being an isolated unit, well away from most Iron Dingoes resources and supply sources.

The unit is, in many ways, the heart of the DOG, though its history and constant regimen keep it in operational readiness under most circumstances.

Tactics : The 3rd (Guards) Rifle Infantry Battalion is essentially a typical Iron Dingoes rifle infantry force, raised as a garrison force, and at full strength. The unit has trained in small unit tactics, and has a little experience in defending against small guerrilla forces, having worked closely with the militia from The (Territorial) District of Corazón. They are also trained in simple anti-armor and anti-Mech tactics.

Their primary responsibility is to provide security services, and keep an eye over the Dingoes grounded DropShip fleet. They work closely with the other resources in the nearby communities, and remain both young and increasingly loyal to the unit.

Support : The 3rd (Guards) Rifle Infantry Battalion has been equipped with standard combat armor, helmet, and pulse laser rifle of the Iron Dingoes Infantry Field Kit (3023). As heavy weapons support, each squad deploys a single M56A2 “Smartgun”.

The 3rd (Guards) Rifle Infantry Battalion does not have any attached logistical elements, and depends largely on itself for technical support. As typical rifle infantry, however, they have few needs they cannot resolve themselves.

The lead company has sufficient Tracked APCs and Light Utility Transports to declare that part of the unit “motorized”, but the rest of the unit is only assigned a single “Hellbender” Jeep to each of its command elements, and no other vehicles or heavy weapons systems.

While simple, the unit is equipped with a mobile operating base, including sufficient pre-fabricated facilities to house the entire unit. WHile the base requires access to local electrical networks, it is otherwise portable and self-sufficient, including water purification capabilities. Led by the “Coldhearts” (7th Platoon), it amounts to roughly a battalion of green, but well-equipped soldiers, with some fortifications and defenses, but no armor or other heavy support weapons. This unit has been named the “Jungle Cats”, and its mobile base, “Tramp Station”. Lacking its own integral logistics force, it depends heavily on regular shipments of parts from the Iron Dingoes own supply sources, though as an almost purely foot infantry force, these needs are substantially less than one might expect.

In early-3025, the Iron Dingoes increased their holding force in Hellas, and established a forward military base at the Puentecillo Border Crossing, effectively creating this unit. In late-3025, the unit was designated the 3rd Battalion, but otherwise remained the same.

In early-3026 the unit came under the official command of then-Major (Brevet) Abelinda Rivera, and she began looking to recruiting a small technical support force for her own unit’s needs. Following the defeat of the Army of New Patagonia, the unit’s primary purpose was removed, and within days, the entire battalion was pulled from duty on the border and evacuated off-world aboard the “Spearhead”, for a then unknown reason.

Late on March 2nd, 3026, the unit landed at the recently captured starport in * Duchy of Tharn, and immediately took over security duties of the facility. They were assigned the protection of the complex, as well as providing the outer defensive screens for the Iron Dingoes DropShip fleet while it is based out of the complex.

On March 5th, 3026, the unit deployed several platoons of its force to assert and maintain * “The Iron Dingoes” control over both * Lanseal Royal Military Academy and * Manticora, while the bulk of its force remained at Rejhappur Starport. The 3rd Guards were then deployed as the lead force for * Iron Dingoes Guards “The Lantern Corps”, until that unit was rebuilt and thereafter served as a support unit, until it was rotated off-world back to System – Dumassas in September, 3026. The unit then stayed in its cantonments throughout 3027, supporting the changes occurring as the unit assimilated its latest off-world territories.

The unit was again withdrawn from Garrison and spent 3028 on Terramatrix, rotating company-sized forces into the western mountains on maneuvers, and assisted in scouting Governor Albertina Diego Airfield in preparation for its occupation by the national arm of The Commonwealth Star Guards.

in mid-3030, the unit was organized the lead unit of the * Dangerous Operations Group (DOG), a regimental-sized force consisting of three (3) battalions of “Outfit Specialized” infantry, intended to be deployed as needed for operations in contested areas of interest to the Iron Dingoes. The formation included the reassembly of two (2) of the unit’s reserve infantry troops originally making up the “The Condottieri” of the 21st Motorized Rifle Regiment (MRR) of The National Legionary Tragnar.

The “Jungle Cats” commander was promoted gain, and Lieutenant Colonel Rivera maintained direct command of this part of the larger DOG group, but depended on the command abilities of her officers in any conflict, as she directs the remainder of the regiment. The unit is presently working together to re-establish its larger operational strategy and tactics at Fort Boomerang near Corazón Airfield.

In early-February, 3032, the unit began preparations for the Petrópolis campaign.
